Calgary Eats! This Saturday!

We're going to be here this Saturday. We're going to do a couple of existing activities at our booth:

  • We going to show you how to build a Global Bucket, a very inexpensive way to make a portable garden bed that is almost drought-proof.
  • We're going to demystify lawns and highlight the true opportunities those spaces offer.
  • Some photos and stories of the Permablitz season last year!
  • And next to us will be Calgary Harvest

See you there!

Movie Night! - No Impact Man - January 13 at 6:30

Here's a refreshing film, presented by the Unitarian Church of Calgary. It will be shown on January 13 2012 at 6:30 at the Unitarian Church which is centrally located at 1703 1st Street NW. Hope to see you there! See below for all the details and the plot.

Please bear with us as we launch our new site!

The launch of our new site is underway, but we have run into some funky errors, resulting in the strange and boring page formatting you're seeing now. Computers are like ecosystems, they're infinitely deep, and the more you dig into them, the more complex they get! Our new site should be up in the next day or two, and then we'll be ironing out the bugs over the next couple of weeks and adding features.

Thanks!

Dear Friends and Community Group Members,

We we have been working hard to get a pot luck organized for November 25th from 6:00pm - 9:30 pm at the Mission Community Hall (2201 Cliff Street SW). We want to get a feel for where you (the membership) wants to see this group go! For example what sort of events do you want the executive to organize, what sort of benefits would you like to see, how often would you like to meet ect. The evening is going to go like this;

We are looking for volunteers to help with the Oct 5 Harvest Festival!

We need help running the Harvest Festival ion October 5 which is put on the Sunnyside Hillhurst Community Association and the Calgary Horticultural Society.

Essentially, the Festival runs from 3:30 till 8pm during then after the farmers market. Essentially, we are looking for help with the following tasks:

The Harvest Festival!

The Sunnyside Hillhurst's last market of the year on Wednesday October 5, 2011, the Harvest Market, will host the first Harvest Fair, in celebration of Calgary’s Urban Agriculture. Based on the Fall Fairs of many a rural community, it will be an opportunity for our local horticulturalists, young and old, to show off their green thumbs. We are giving this advanced warning so you can start developing your future prize vegetables and fruit. Ready, Set, Grow!

Call for Volunteers for The Local Food Supper - September 23rd, 2011

It's hot outside, but slowly but surely summer is coming to a close!

So you must know that we are already at work planning events for the Fall and right on the horizon is the Local Food Supper at the Unitarian Church on  Friday, September 23rd.

Besides a terrific supper with all local food ingredients, we have planned a Celebrate our Local Growers theme where we have growers host table-top discussions throughout supper, then a sort of panel afterwards that is more aimed at highlighting what our growers challenges & succeses this year, and where they see the industry moving in 2012.

As ever, the perk for voluntarily giving up your Friday night is the chance to be among friends, have great fun and contribute to our community.

Permaculture set to explode into action!

This website is on the brink of being rebuilt. The reason? Because permaculture is going to be happening at breakneck speed this season. The Calgary Permaculture Guild (yes, we're renaming the Calgary Permacultuire Community Group) has just been incorporated as a non-profit society, and will be taking on some major earth and community repair projects. You might have already heard some buzz about a "Permablitz nework". You heard right. The Calgary Permablitz Network is going to be just one of the sharp teeth under the Guild. You may have also heard in the news about "Calgary Harvest." The Calgary Urban Harvest Project is another sharp tooth under the Guild. The purpose of the Guild to to make positive change happen in the community of Calgary and beyond, and projects such as these are the literal language of action! So, join in the fun! Become a member wof the Guild today!
